Following up on the comedy smash successes of 2005’s Orgy of the Dead! and 2006’s The Sinister Urge!, indie theater impresario Frank Cwiklik returns with his first original comedy since the acclaimed Sugarbaby! of 2002. The Wild, Wild Women of Wakky-Nunu is a delirious, high-energy, shameless sex farce generously packed with the multimedia frenzy, inventive staging, brash style, and madcap intensity that have made Cwiklik one of the worst-kept-secrets of New York theater, and have earned him praise, plaudits, and approval from NYTheatre.com, Backstage, Time Out New York, The Village Voice, New York Press, and many, many more! This lurid, pulpy, visually eclectic comedy smorgasbord is equal parts bedroom farce, classic burlesque, rapid-fire vaudeville, and high-wire dance extravaganza!
Coming from the recent triumph of his third acclaimed production of Bitch Macbeth, Cwiklik gathers many of the talents that made that show a cult phenomenon, along with an impressive cast of talented young performers new to the Do What Now company. Returning from Bitch Macbeth are Patrick Pizzolorusso, as the resilient and unflappable Cubby Gaines, sidekick to the stars, looking for his one big break; Becky Byers, dynamite as Bunny Barretta, firecracker showgirl starlet, pinup queen wannabe, and ball of loveable energy; Samantha Mason as Stevie Pulaski, talented young photographer with a fiery attitude and a lot to prove; and the irresistible Kevin Myers, who plays Carl, the ultimate hipster, the one-man party, our host and guide to this foreign land.
Also returning are Jess Beveridge, Sarah Brodsky, and Candace Yoshioka, who anchor the terrific troupe of eight talented dancer/actresses who bring the wacky women of Wakky-Nunu to colorful life; and, of course, Sarah E. Jacobs, whose acclaimed choreography in Bitch Macbeth mesmerized audiences, and who pulls double duty in this show -- both creating Wakky-Nunu’s athletic, dazzling, show-stopping dance sequences, and stealing the show as Nug, Carl’s monosyllabic but strangely brilliant gal Friday.
BUT THAT’S NOT ALL! Joining the Do What Now company for the first time in this production are the hilarious Douglas Mackrell, playing girlie-mag titan turned intrepid explorer Hickory “Toot” Sweet; and the lovely and talented Celestine Rae, Leah Dietrich, and Haley Zale, as the Amazons whose delectable torments drive Jake and Toot to jungle madness! And finally, in the role of Jake, the rare return of Frank Cwiklik to the stage in his first performance in nearly five years, playing the loveable rogue Jake Manley, legend in his own mind, the last Great American Guy, living the tiki-lounge bachelor-pad lifestyle, only to find it’s not quite the paradise it’s cracked up to be.
